Smile Kitchens and Dom Skinner unveil a bold and beautiful kitchen collection
North-West-based Smile Kitchens has unveiled 5 new, limited edition kitchen collections that each champion maximalism through colour, in collaboration with TV personality, make-up director and colour expert, Dom Skinner – prepare to be inspired.
Known to be a master and champion of colour, a skill honed throughout his long career in make-up artistry, Dom Skinner's collaboration with Smile Kitchens features 5 bold and distinct colour palettes, all inspired by vivid and colourful memories from Dom’s own life.
On taking his passion for colour in the cosmetics and beauty space and applying it to home interiors for this collaboration, Dom commented: “When you experiment with creativity and colour every day for a living, that passion doesn’t just stay within the confines of your job, it bleeds into other areas of your life and finds other creative outlets.
“This entire colour palette collection was born out of me actually designing my own kitchen with Smile. I wanted to create a space in my home that evoked some of my favourite memories from my life, through meaningful colours. I ultimately wanted to create a space that sparked joy for me every time I was in the kitchen – which let’s face it, is a lot.
“I brought sentimental photographs to the Smile design team, rather than your typical kitchen inspiration, and we worked together to try and bring my nostalgic memories to life through design and colour. And then we didn’t stop, we curated 5 more kitchen collections together, inspired by all sorts of stories and memories from my life, from the nostalgia of childhood sweets to the colours that have persevered with me throughout my career with M·A·C Cosmetics.”
Dom Skinner exclusive kitchen collections include:
1 - Dolly Mixture
This palette comprises 4 pastel colours; Sorbet, Swirl, Minted and Candi, and is a bold combination of joyful shades that evoke nostalgic memories of sweet shop favourites, to create a whimsical heart of the home.
2 - Kitchen Kisses
Smaller than the last, this palette features 2 rich colours; X’s and Whirlwind, all of which are sumptuous jewel-tones designed to create a moody, romantic aesthetic with the palette taking inspiration from the cross-section of colour, art and love.
3 - Future Nostalgia
Comprising only one colourway, this palette leans heavily on the colour-drenching trend that has seen recent popularity in the home interior space. The singular shade, Future, is a rich blue tone with depth and longevity, a timeless hue with enduring style that when styled correctly, can be right at home in ultra-modern, or nostalgic retro interiors.
4 - Pop Shock
Featuring 2 shades of pink, Candi and Ripple, this electric palette takes inspiration from the glow of neon lights and is speaking directly to the rise in popularity of pink in home interiors. This futuristic palette incorporates hints of white to mimic the luminous glow of neon, and creates a vibrant and energising kitchen aesthetic.
5 - Cherry Cola
The final palette embraces Pinterest Predicts’ colour forecast for 2025 that champions Cherry Red in interiors, except this colour scheme pairs red with glossy maroon and rich cola accents, consisting of Popp, Cola and Whirlwind.
The 5 colour palettes are available in 4 of Smile’s cabinetry ranges, having been specially curated and paired to 3 existing (Vard, Jenson and Hampton) and one newly launched style (Riven) which are a mix of Shaker, in-frame and slab cabinets.
Dawn Filkins, head of creative at Smile Kitchens, comments: “We’re so thrilled to be collaborating with Dom, not only because he has an eye for bold colour combinations that work beautifully, but also, through the design process of his own kitchen, it became apparent that his unwavering commitment to his personal style, aligns perfectly with our brand ethos – we want to make great kitchen design without compromises, available to everyone.
“We do this by connecting our customers directly with our experienced kitchen designers through online consultations and design refinement sessions, as well as sending samples directly to customers' homes so they can get a physical feel for the quality and colours in real life.
“We recognise a kitchen should be as unique as the people using it and we hope the Dom colour palettes not only help customers visualise how bolder kitchen colours can work in their own homes, but encourages them to channel their inner interior designer throughout the kitchen buying process – a kitchen doesn’t have to be off the peg, and good design doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
“Whilst the staple kitchen colours of white and grey are still incredibly popular, we are starting to see a steady rise in demand for green and pink kitchens in particular, and for those wanting something even more unique, we also offer an extensive colour matching service across our painted timber kitchen collections.”
