MHK Group kicks off 2024 with 'a strategic focus on the UK'

MHK, Europe’s leading buying group for independent kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom retailers, says it is set to make significant strides in 2024 with a robust agenda that underscores its commitment to international growth as well as investment in the UK market.

In the UK, MHK has a number of upcoming activities including its third appearance at KBB Birmingham since it first launched in 2018. Engagement with the installer industry via sponsorship of the British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers (BiKBBI) and a dedicated UK AGM this summer will further cement its proactive participation in the UK’s KBB industry.

Established in 1992, MHK has pioneered its international presence with subsidiaries in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, and, since 2018, the UK. Its country partner companies now collectively generate a substantial amount of total sales in the core kitchen segment. Bolstered by this success, the MHK Group is continuing to drive forward the expansion of European markets with a renewed focus on the internationalisation of the Group.

Volker Klodwig, CEO of the MHK Group, said: “Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands are our most developed markets. However, Spain and the UK have an increased importance this year given their potential for market penetration as well has France.”

David Morris, UK sales manager for MHK-UK, said: “MHK owes this potential in the UK to the sheer number of medium-sized specialist retailers that the market has nurtured. We often hear about closures, but not enough about startups. In the last five years, a large percentage of our new members have been successful, high end startups that we’ve been able to support to the development of.  What’s more, during 2023, we surpassed our target for new retail members and now boast a portfolio of over 60 supplier brands.”
